Meet Finn L. Skovdal

Finn L. Skovdal is the owner and principal attorney of Skovdal Law LLC, a Pennsylvania criminal defense firm serving clients throughout the greater Philadelphia region. With over a decade of trial experience and a strong foundation as a former prosecutor, Finn brings a seasoned, strategic, and compassionate approach to defending the rights of individuals facing criminal charges.
Before founding Skovdal Law LLC, Finn served as a prosecutor with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, where he handled a wide range of criminal matters—from DUIs to homicides. As a member of the Violent Crimes and Firearms Unit, he prosecuted serious and high-profile cases involving assault, firearms, and homicide. This extensive courtroom experience gives Finn a unique perspective on how prosecutors build cases, allowing him to craft powerful and effective defenses for his clients.
A graduate of Duquesne University School of Law, Finn has been practicing law since 2013 and has accumulated more than 12 years of trial experience. During law school, he wrote for both the Duquesne Law Review and the Duquesne Criminal Law Blog, researching and publishing articles on pressing issues in criminal law. He was also an active member of the Black Law Student Association’s (BLSA) Trial Advocacy Team, helping lead Duquesne Law to victory as regional champions in the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition, one of the nation’s oldest and most respected mock trial competitions.
After leaving the District Attorney’s Office, Finn founded Skovdal Law to use his trial experience to help people exercise and protect their constitutional rights. Raised in Lower Bucks County, Finn began his career in Pittsburgh before returning home to the Philadelphia area, where he now dedicates his practice to standing up for the accused and ensuring that every client’s rights are preserved.
Finn’s skill and dedication have earned him recognition from the legal community, including selection to Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch, inclusion in The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 and Whirl Magazine 30 Under 30.
